songkran 2019 was a week-long celebration of the Thai new year!! The festivities involve paying tribute to your family and also A countrywide WATER FIGHT!!! This was my first time here in Pattaya for Songkran and it was absolutely crazy and a must-see event!!
The party stats over a week before the actual Thai New Year. With the flood of tourists to the holiday destination come an onslaught of water guns and large buckets for refills for just a few Thai Baht. If you venture ou e prepared to be wet. like all wet all the time!
Fun?
Songkran is something everyone visiting Thailand should experience at least once. Songkran 2019 was fun. Actually it is really fun. So many people dancing in the streets and laughing all while having this epic water fight. From small water pistols to fire trucks, yes fire trucks hosing down the crowd. You have to see to believe!
Too Much?
Yes, Songkran 2019 was way too long. It ends up being almost 2 weeks of Chaos. I lived away from the action so I was lucky enough to have a choice when I wanted to be splashed by ice-cold bowls of water or shot by a super soaker drive by.
If you re staying near the festivities good luck! You will go to dinner soaked you will go into the 7-11 like you just came through the whole rainy season at once.

If you are going to partake in this adventure have fun. It is a celebration. See how so many people from all over the world can get along for days on end. I do suggest limiting your alcohol. The police presence is extremely high and driving or riding a motorbike is already more dangerous with all the water thrown on you. In crowded areas be aware of where yo keep money and valuables criminals do also partake in the festivities! Be respectful and you will have an amazing story!
