Airplane Graveyard Bangkok
October 14, 2017
I had read a few articles before about this place in the middle of Bangkok that actually had airplanes in a field. I had to check it out. I kinda get that way when I hear about an off the beaten bath attraction. I have a few more on my list and the list keeps growing. So thanks to the wonderful world of GOOGLE I just punch it in my phone and get the address for this mysterious place.
So I grab one of the infamous pink cabs and like always ask if we are using the meter (always use the meter). The driver says yes and I show him the phone, ask if he knows the place and like every cab I have ever gotten into in Thailand he tells me yes… side note lots of times they have no clue and will stop and ask one of there buddies. We are off it did take awhile for us to get there by cab. The location was kinda on the other side of the city from my room on Sukhumvit Soi 9.
When we arrive you really are not sure you are in the right spot. There are a few building from what I hear they pull parts off these planes and sell scrap. There is a fence with a lock and you can see a large part of a plane over the fence. Someone wonders over to the fence asks me for 300thb I believe it was and that is only like 10USD I figure why not. I have heard that the people that ask for the money are just squatters that are living in the large plane, that they also ask you not to take photos of. So I pay and the old gate is open and my world is crushed lol. Not really but I did expect more. Just a few fuselages are left so differently not what I expected but I was going to make the best of it . and explore get some cool photos and fly my DJI Spark drone!
We are in and it was a little wet. The weeds were way overgrown and looked like some little swampy areas around. Bugs were set on kill and at the time of day, around 1 pm the sun was a killer so make sure you are packing some water. This was also the begging of July. Hot and Humid is the weather of Bangkok this time a year. No one watched me so I walked over pulled the drone out of my bag and set it up to launch real quick of the wing of a plane. got it up and took some cool shots of the area and planes. I also had my DSLR. I was able to get some really cool pics of the carcass of these monsters. Giants that used to haul people thousands of miles soaring above and now they lay motionless in a field in the middle of Bangkok, Thailand. After flying for so many hours to Thailand on multiple occasions, and now standing inside a plane missing all the trim that we are used to seeing while sitting in our seats. You realize there is not much between your head that lays so uncomfortable against the plastic walls and the outside however many 10000s of feet in the air at however many 100s of miles an hour.
My take away from my visit is, why not If you like to see things that you really can not see in this world take a trip over to the airplane graveyard in Bangkok, Thailand. It was a cool half day trip and I always love to explore.
