From the land of smiles to the land of silicone !

That first step off the plane back on American soil definitely can burn ! After spending a good amount of time in Thailand , anything more than 2 weeks . If you are like me , you tend to start to experience less of the tourist and more of the culture . My first trip was a 30 day trip and that was amazing I felt almost like I had moved to Thailand in a way . You create habits like you have at home , where to eat what store you get a drink at and even the regular people you say hello to throughout your day.
So let’s touch on some of the things that make the trip home for me that much harder . As always this is my point of view my side of the story , that is all.
Saying Hello !
This may never seem Like a big deal until you have left the country . Maybe by my appearance or whatever the reason here in the states I find that if I (a man ) says hello to a woman that there is some apprehension on the woman’s part they have to think if I am hitting on them or if I am up to something . When I am in Thailand I can say hello and even start small talk with a man or a woman and to me it seems there are not these same assumptions . Also When I land , normally in a large city you always see that one person in the airport that is in matching everything and headphones ready to go on . I know this person believes themselves to be very important but why should I have to think twice on just being nice and saying hello. While in Thailand I say hello to the most beautiful woman in the market and guess what its really just to be nice . Just to be A friendly person. Its very sad but it always breaks my heart when I land knowing that most people have these walls up that make kindness a second thought.
Lets EAT !!
The food ! Food in Thailand seems to just be better my assumption on this is we are such a processed food fast food nation that makes our food full of bad stuff. My first trip we ate breakfast at a cafe on a regular basis we would go in the morning and the owner would sometimes be pulling up on his motorbike with the food he just picked up from the market . The market being down the street where the local farmers go everyday to sell their food. So it’s FRESH AF.. I can eat off the western side of the menus and still never feel sluggish like I do at times here in the states when eating out . The variety of food that is available is always amazing . So when I get home its a let down to go back to foods that you know are not as good for you and that definitely will help gain some weight back .
Social Media !
My first trip was a few years ago . I definitely now notice the growing phone in the face syndrome that we face here in America . But the first trip was refreshing . I personally try to only use my phone for taking some pictures and for GPS while I am out . and really only to post the days activities while I have down time in my room at night on WiFi . I do see way more beautiful faces in Thailand and A lot less phone zombies . Not that while in Thailand you won’t see the younger selfie taking IG posting people . But it is not as bad as it is at home from what I have seen,
So yes every time I board my plane , and head back on the 20+ hour trip back to the states I feel sad and when I land I am depressed for a few days until my next trip is booked !
